Privacy notice
Lights Out Live is an independent fan project based in Ireland. It isn't affiliated with Formula 1 or any team. This notice explains what we store when you use the site and why.
Who's responsible
The data controller is Brian Duignan, Ireland, who runs Lights Out Live as an individual. Contact: hello@lightsoutlive.com.
Using the timer
The camera feed is processed only on your phone, in your browser. Video is never uploaded or recorded. Your local history and settings stay in your browser's storage.
If you save a score
To put a time on a leaderboard you sign in with an emailed code. We then store:
- Your email address, to send sign-in codes and keep one account per person. It is never shown publicly.
- Your display name, which appears on leaderboards.
- Each start you save: your reaction time, when the lights went out, the light-level reading from the camera detector around that moment (numbers only, no images) and your browser type. We use these to run the leaderboards and to spot fake scores.
- Leagues you create or join.
The legal basis is providing the service you asked for (contract). We don't send marketing email, sell data or use advertising trackers.
Where it's kept
Data is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts the site and sends the sign-in emails. Cloudflare may process it outside the EU under its standard data-protection terms.
How long
We keep your account until you delete it. Unused sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes.
Your rights
You can change your display name or delete your account and all saved scores at any time from Account in the app. Deletion is immediate. You can also ask for a copy of your data, a correction or a deletion by emailing hello@lightsoutlive.com. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
